I’ve been thinking a lot about the accordion in terms of musical technology, seeing it almost as a proto-synthesizer - push one button to get an oboe sound, another to get a flute sound, etc. This track started with me trying to emulate a common synth technique, an S&H filter modulation, on the accordion, by taping the keys down and switching the reed stops percussively. I used that as a base for a mellow krautrock inspired piece that feels to me like melting into the dawn. The title is taken from an Emily Dickinson poem, "Not knowing when the dawn will come". released April 8, 2025 Composed, performed, and recorded by Walt McClements Performed by Walt McClements on accordion and synthesizer.
